Welcome to Sunflower Seven!

Sunflower Seven bakes dog treats that -- as the tagline says -- are seriously simple. Made from the types of ingredients found in your grandmother's cupboard, Sunflower Seven treats are made fresh daily with no preservatives. We also sell other like-minded products that are eco-conscious, fair-trade friendly and very frequently, certified organic.

We've been making dog treats for more than 20 years and are now happy to be able to offer them and other carefully chosen, eco-friendly products to a much wider audience.

We also know that the human race is hungry, too. To help just a little, Sunflower Seven donates a percentage of every sale to a hunger organization. If you do not wish to support this effort through your online purchase, that's okay. Just let us know during checkout.

Jenny, the Belgian Shepard in the photo, is this month's "Official Treat Tester." She prefers (and recommends!) the Oatmeal Molasses Bones.

Who is "Two Dog Night" and what does it mean? The phrase “Two Dog Night” has origins in at least two different camps. For astronomers, the Dogstar (named Sirius A) and its faint, white dwarf companion (Sirius B) make up the Big Dog constellation (Canis Major). Sirius is the brightest star in the sky, and when viewed together with Sirius B, you are witnessing a “two dog night.” Ancient Egyptians, the Roman Empire and even Dante Alighieri all revered the constellation, even if not always positively so. The Egyptians thought the Dogstar had an unholy alliance with the sun, causing their wretched summer heat, or the “dog days of summer” as we now know them.

The more commonly known extraction has Australians in the Outback rating the winter’s cold by how many sleeping dogs it takes to warm the tent at night – a one-dog night, two-dog night, three-dog night and so on.

On a less interesting note, Two Dog Night is the name of the corporation you're contemplating doing business with through this website. (Sunflower Seven is the brand of dog treats it sells to consumers and businesses alike.)

Tell me more about "feeding humans, too." Sunflower Seven donates a percentage of each sale to Freedom from Hunger and World Neighbors -- each of which is a nonprofit dedicated to lessening hunger and poverty for people. Importantly, each has a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. If this idea is unsettling to you, please note it when ordering and we won't do it.

Tell me about the dog at the top of the page. Jenny is a Belgian Shepherd who resides on a farm in southern Indiana. When she's not chasing pick up trucks, she can be found on the heels of her owner as he makes his daily rounds checking cattle. She's protective, but her bark is far worse than her bite, and she loves to have her tummy rubbed. Give Jenny a treat and she's your friend forever!

Would you consider my dog as an "Official Tester" too? Certainly! Send us a jpeg of your dog and let us know which treats and products he or she likes most. We'll load you up with some extras and may ask for your feedback on new recipes.
